The Big One

The Fucking Bike Club did not invent the full moon bike ride. I'd like to think that the very first full moon after the invention of the bicycle there was a full moon bike ride. Beer and the moon had both been around for a while at that point. How hard is it to put 1 and 1 and 1 together?

On Saturday August 13th, The Fucking Bike Club will be riding on its 78th consecutive Full Moon Fiasco. The very same night our fair city will be hosting its 47th annual Moonlight Ramble. The Fucking Bike Club will be taking advantage of this fact and adding our ranks to what is already the worlds largest and most fun night time bicycle ride.

As usual, if you choose to participate, please meet at Turtle Park around 10:30pm, at 11 o'clock sharp we will pedal ourselves downtown to catch the start of the ramble. For me the ramble is a yearly highlight on par with other special days like Halloween and Easter Car Show Day. You don't want to miss this one, its the original article. The ride from which the FBC was born. Truth.

So, i saw helmets are required for the moonlight ramble..so for the unsafe riders, like myself that don't wear helmets..think this is an issue if we're merging into that ride, and also should we concerned about our fun beverages of choice since this is more of a family ride? I'm used to having my sweet cup holder on my handle bars and i'm not sure if little kiddie's parents with appreciate that.

We've jumped into the Moonlight Ramble before. Helmets aren't required, and you can drink if you're not being painfully obvious (read: stupid) about it.

Just don't be a dick, and everything will be fine.

Relax and enjoy mike after mile of intersections blocked by police officers.

You fucking hipsters and frat boy dickheads pay $30+ dollars for t-shirts all of the time. So mocking paying Moonlight Ramble participants for shelling out $27.50 for a t-shirt, swag, and a good dose of late-night-fun seems pretty laughable.

August 12, 2011 7:17 AM

fyi $ goes to gateway council/hostelling international, not just t-shirts. so if you paid, $ would go to a cause rather than beer. just sayin.

This is the 48th Moonlight Ramble. This year should draw 10,000 riders. Lets due some VERY conservative math.

Assume that the ride has only been that popular for the last 15 years. Lets say 8,000 riders, half of which pay $20.

20x4,000 = $80,000

80,000x15 = $1,200,00.00

I think the hostel should have been built by now.

1: Jake is right, and he, like myself, will regulate on you haters.

2: The Moonlight Ramble is a charity ride. You must really be a dick to want to block/fuck with this ride. Try to find a positive outlet for your dick-headed attitude.

3. Keep in mind that anytime you are on your bike you represent the entire bike community. So whether it is a charity ride or a Full Moon Fiasco people DO look at you and base their image of urban cyclists on that image. Keep this in mind as you cut off cars and then wonder why drivers treat cyclists the way they do.

4. Stop and ask yourself, "Self, why do I ride my bike?"

Sorry to rant. See you tomorrow night. I'll be the one smiling and having a blast. Try to pick me out of the crowd.

This club is about having fun and being friendly. Let's all remember that and forget about anything that has happened in the past, or on the internet. If we all try our best this can be the best Fiasco ever.

I work downtown and got off at 11:30 so i wasn't able to meet @ turtle park... so i just asked a guy that was hanging in a park away from the group how they differentiate the people who paid and who didn't and he plainly said "they don't" so i got a look at his map and road to maggies they had a $2 cover so i hung outside with a guy who had 2-4 car horns mounted on a trailer on his bike all disguised as bud light 18"s and 12's untill you looked at it you had no idea... and i mean really looked at it. these guys were good guys and even gave me a beer. i split off from them and went to get my own beer for the ride. I met up with a guy that saved me when i had a flat on my commute one morning. (sean thanks again) rode with him for awhile and when we got to tower grove i bowed out bc its close to my house and what have you, but as i was walking up my steps i heard "BRWANHH BRWANHH BRWANHH" i knew it was the guy i had met earlier and i live about a mile away from where i left the ride and i thought about going back because i knew i was missing out on a ride of a lifetime. atleast one of a kind! but my experience was to say the least a fiasco experience only multiplied. So lets give props to the people in the ramble they are great ladies and gentlemen enjoying either a brisk pace with like minded cyclists or a leisure ride with like minded cyclists. face it fbc riders what we do isn't new we aren't the first so don't be an elitist about riding once a month (some of you) like lee said the ramble is where it all started...

Saturday night was my first Full Moon Fiasco in 5 years and I can't believe how many people were on the ride. Granted it was a beautiful Saturday night but still...

I think the last ride I went on before moving was 3 degrees and about 10 people. It's awesome to see that not only is the ride still around but is bigger than ever. I'm really psyched to be back in St. Louis and able to ride on such an awesome ride with some great old friends and acquaintances. It sucks to see the jackasses on here but eh, it's just the internet I suppose.

Multiple cyclists were attacked last night on Tower Grove Ave and Flad in the Shaw neighborhood. They were punched in the face and knocked off their bicycles by groups of 6-10 men. This happened to at least two cyclists last night, and attempts were made to steal the bicycles after assaulting the riders. Trailnet is working with the City of St. Louis to address this problem. Please be aware of your surroundings and be especially careful in the Grove and Shaw neighborhoods. Protect yourself and be safe out there! We will keep you posted on any new details. Please repost to spread the word.

Please contact advocacy@trailnet.org with any other similar assaults on cyclists. Include details on when, where, and if a police report was filed.
