Daylight Again.

After having more than a couple days to reflect on it, I still have pretty much no idea what happened last Saturday night.

There are a couple of things that I do know for sure:

Some sort of low-rent super hero surfaced from his parents basement with a reflective vest and flashlight. He flagrantly disrupted traffic and pissed off motorists in the name of safety.

We took a tour of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr BLVD. The first part of the tour was guided by a 6 car Wellston Police escort. John P. gave one of the officers a spoke card to either hang up back at the station or put in the spokes of one of Wellston's Motorcycle units.

An unknown passerby threw a chunk of concrete at Deebo, who was riding my Mom's 1980's Schwinn High Sierra. Luckily both Deebo and my Mom's ride escaped unharmed.

Two FBCers on a tandem bike broke their rear axle on the ride. A group of us took turns pushing them to their apartment downtown. At one point we were pushing them so recklessly I almost wished that Captain Safety was nearby to reprimand us.

As we neared our destination our huge group splintered into dozens of smaller groups. At one point I was riding down Lenore K. Sullivan by myself when some jackass in a car full jackasses hit me with a big gulp that he threw out the window. I caught up with them just as they were forced to stopped by the group of 100 drunken bike riders blocking the rode. I bounced a beer can off the car, flipped them the bird and felt totally vindicated.

The cops had already broken up the party by the time we got there. As everyone knows, after reaching the final destination any shred of organization goes flying out the window like a half full Big Gulp. Shannon offered to move the party to CAMP as long as we could find someplace to kill about 45 minutes. Some of us went to Shady Jacks some of us went to Maurizzios, some of us went home. I went to Shady Jacks. When we got there the garage door was drawn and it seemed to be closed. I found a key hole, placed my mouth firmly against it, identified ourselves as The Fucking Bike Club and asked Jack to open up. The garage door came up and brought our spirits right along with it.

Finally, 3:00 rolled around and Jack had no option but to close his doors. Our group made our way over to CAMP to practice for next months Underwear Pool Party of Destiny with a monumental all night underwear dance party. My mind may be playing tricks on me, but I think I recall Captain Safety sitting in chair in the corner of the dance floor using his front bike light as a strobe light and keeping vigil over the dance floor. We danced until 7:15am. I took over 200 photos. These are the ones I feel ok about posting on the internet.

Another stellar fiasco if I don’t say so.

And speaking of fun between your legs the alley cat is beginning to work itself out. I have received lots of interest and support from the FBC and Saint Louis cycling community. A few people have offered to help but I could use more. I am hoping to put two people at each stop, hopefully one with a camera. I have written down a set of rules, no make that guidelines, for how this event will go off. There are only a few details left to work out but here is a brief outline:

· It will start at Turtle park on Sunday the 22nd around four pm.
· The course will be the ‘unknown destination’ with pictures and hints about 15 to 17 miles in length.
· There will be an entry fee of ten dollars US.
· There will be prizes if there are a minimum number of riders (6 or 8??), if not then there will be a 90% pay back of the entries. If it is prizes, there will be some bitchin’ bicycle related items for each gender group, male, female and unclassifiable. The more entries, the more places awarded, up to five per gender group, (if turnout is grand I may have a small overall category).
· The start will be slightly staggered according to first gender, and then entry order, entries will be via e-mail beginning one week prior to the start, meaning 4 pm on the 15th. I will take entries at the start too. Earliest entries will go first in their gender group. All estrogen will start before the testosterone. Early registration will help the rider and helps me to know how many will race.
· There will be a handicap system in effect depending on gender and kind of bicycle ridden.
· For those of you that wish to see all of the break neck action and open grave speed from the comfort from their very own saddle, I will disclose the checkpoint locations after all entries have started so the rest of you can see more than the start and ride along with the contestants.

If you thought that was more than brief, you should see the full set of guidelines I have been working on. I will try to get you all more in the way of an official post to this blog asap. Go right ahead and e-mail me if you need to know more before then. I am also open to suggestions, especially because I am already thinking about another one of these pending the outcome of this first one. Please e-mail me if you wish to be a part of this by manning a checkpoint, I sure could use you.

That dance party is done no justice by photos provided; however, Leanne is happy "not to be naked on the internet." Whatever she means by that.

I am having a non-stop blast and will be sad to move from St. Louis again. But everytime I come home it gets better, which means that you all are doing some serious non-work. I love that about you, St. Louis. Keep the rent low, eh?

Is 7/7/7 ride happening?

Show up 11 PM tomorrow and hope for the best??? If a couple people reply here they are doing that, then it might happen.

But there would be no route, leader nor party to go to if no-one steps up and takes charge.

That is the drawback to randomly hanging out after curfew in public parks almost alone awaiting instruction from somewhere, but you aren't sure where.

Alley Cat Update…

A number of people have pledged to help at the checkpoints, I still need a couple more and I’m set there.
I had some flyers printed today to post and/or distribute. If some of you wish to put them up around the area I can get them to you. Thanks to Jeff M. for designing it and the ‘warped’ spoke card.
Would Mr. Awesome or someone else running this blog write me, I would like to get an official entry posted about it if that is ok.
As usual, write me and I’ll tell you more.
