FBC TO TOUR MISSOURI ALONG THE KATY TRAIL
Dear FBC,
An attempt will be made to ride The Katy Trail west to east (the easy way) starting on Monday April 24, 2006. I guess it takes around 5 days to do this. That would be 1 day of travel plus 4 days of riding: 2 hard days at approx 70 m each and two easy days at approx 40 m each. This is a low budget trip so no motels, not even cheap ones because camping is even cheaper. There is only one definite about this ride so far, a stayover in Steedman, MO. The only restaurant in Steedman happens to also be the only bar and its called The SOB. The Son ofa Bitch provides free camping in their back-yard for Katy Trail riders if you drink there, an FBC paradise.
If you ride west to east the trail is approx 220 miles long, starting in Clinton, MO and ending in St. Charles. Getting to Clinton is a two-part journey: 1. Take the Amtrak from St. Louis to Sedalia, MO (the closest train station to Clinton) 2. Ride approx 35 miles south from Sedalia to Clinton. It will cost $25 for you to take the train plus $10 for your bicycle. Camping along the way will take place at established campsites, within 1 mile of the trail. Some sites charge by tent (avg $6 per tent) and some charge by person (avg $4 per person).
Thats it. If you want to come respond to this post. Michael, thanks for the memories, sorry you cannot come. FBC love you long time.

i wish you luck. my forray into riding to columbia though accomplished with some hitchhiking revieled that the katy trail is fucking boring. that damn grey gravel sucks up any sort of speed. and even shooting everything along the way with the bb handgun we brought didn't help the monoteny. we even rode on the highway for a while only to have rednecks try to get as close as possible to us with their trucks while passing.
i can vouch for cole's account. i've had similar experiences riding different parts of the katy trail with my dad and brother. shit gets old quick and hoosiers are abundant. people are anal about drinking while riding on that trail, too. lots of family fun afoot.
