Saturday, November 26 2011, is time for race #2 in the Lit-Up Alley Cat Series. This is another chance to have some fun 'racing' your bike. Ride it fast or ride it slow, everyone is invited.

The pre-party starts at 5:00pm at the Handlebar, the race starts at 7:30pm sharp. It cost $5 if you pre-register on Spoked STL or $7 day of. The last race was a blast and I expect this one to be just as good.

Alley Cat Race this Friday!!

Its been a while since the FBC has put on a race, in fact we might be overdue. Luckily Matt from Spoked STL has not been slacking. He is throwing an alley cat race this Friday, September 30th. Registration and merriment begin at 5:30pm at the Stone Pavilion in Tower Grove Park, the race begins promptly at 7:30. Five bucks to race and racers get beers and goodies. So enter whether you intend to ride really fast or not, the point to have some fun and be a part of the awesome.

The Fucking Bike Club did not invent the full moon bike ride. I'd like to think that the very first full moon after the invention of the bicycle there was a full moon bike ride. Beer and the moon had both been around for a while at that point. How hard is it to put 1 and 1 and 1 together?

On Saturday August 13th, The Fucking Bike Club will be riding on its 78th consecutive Full Moon Fiasco. The very same night our fair city will be hosting its 47th annual Moonlight Ramble. The Fucking Bike Club will be taking advantage of this fact and adding our ranks to what is already the worlds largest and most fun night time bicycle ride.

As usual, if you choose to participate, please meet at Turtle Park around 10:30pm, at 11 o'clock sharp we will pedal ourselves downtown to catch the start of the ramble. For me the ramble is a yearly highlight on par with other special days like Halloween and Easter Car Show Day. You don't want to miss this one, its the original article. The ride from which the FBC was born. Truth.

First, on Tuesday June 14th join your Fucking Bike Club in its annual celebration of Flag Day. The Flag Day ride entails attaching a flag (any flag) to your bicycle or yourself and meeting at Turtle Park at 6:30pm. At 7:00pm we pedal off into the evening, cruising through well populated areas spreading merriment well into the night.

Heads up-- the April Full Moon Fiasco is Aprilween. Halloween costumes are required to attend. This year Aprilween will be celebrated on Sunday April 17th. Meet at Turtle Park around 10:30pm.

From Turtle Park we will be riding first to the South Compton Water Tower which is being kept open for us. For $5 cash (which goes to the preservation of St. Louis water towers) you can climb to the top of the tower and party nearer the moon in an Aprilween costume. The people that are keeping the tower open for us are looking for one volunteer to assist them. This volunteer would be able to do the rest of the ride, but would need to skip the meet-up at Turtle Park. Any takers? Let us know in the comments.

The Fucking Club is by the people and for the people. This month your fellow Lifetime Member For Life, Sabrina, has taken the reigns and the spoke card making responsibilities and we're gonna party South of the border style.

The theme is Mexico. That's the country immediately south of here where Sabrina and her bro just rode 2,222 through jungle and sand, all the while trying to avoid Montezuma's vengeance. Get yourself a bottle of the stuff with the worm in it, a festive extremely wide brimmed hat and maybe some slow simmered pinto beans and meet at Turtle Park Saturday March 19th at 10:30pm. The Cold Ride 2011

May not be that cold this year. So why not join The Best Club in the World as we tow a keg of beer on our home-made keg trailer to Alton IL this Saturday, March 5th 2011?

When the Cold Ride was conceived many years ago our destination was Fast Eddie's Bon Aire, but in the intervening years our relationship with that establishment has turned sour. This year we will be headed to the glamorous Pub Room in Alton.

Alton is a long way from Turtle Park (~40 miles) and it will take us a long time to get there since we will be having a keg party on the way. You are invited to join us. But you will need to secure your own ride back from Alton, unless you are up for riding back (another ~40 miles) in the middle of the night, jumping the fences on both sides of the Chain of Rocks Bridge, and possibly getting sprayed by a skunk.

If you want to earn some real FBC cred, this is the ride for you. Bring whatever you need to keep yourself and your bicycle going for a long day and long night of beer soaked fun. Eat a hearty breakfast or early lunch and meet at Turtle Park at 11:30am the party leaves at noon sharp.

If you or someone you know isn't up for the ride but wants to meet us at The Pub Room, party and give some FBCers a ride home that would be awesome. Let us know in the comments. I want to see some girls on this ride!

Some friends and I went on a bike ride.

We just rode around really. Stopped for beers. Sang Grand Old Flag. Played on some swings, rode down a hill, found a big air-conditioning vent that will shoot your hat in the air. It was fun.

We do it every year. Its the only way to celebrate Flag Day.

First! Thurs. Nov. 12th King Khan and BBQ Show is playing at Off Broadway. They are a garage rockish style band with a touch of soul. They are definitely a band well approved by the fbc. If this show is of poor attendance then we will thus be continuing the conundrum of super rad bands leap frogging over st louis because they feel its not worth there time. King Khan and BBQ will surely get your feet movin' and your tushy shakin'. The price is a little steep at $12, but you will not regret it. We kind of hit it off just shooting the shit in front of Arena liquors and asked him if wanted to join us on a bike ride.

He agreed as long as he could spit pigs blood in Cole's face.

With all formalities out of the way we headed on to Turtle Park.

From there it was a scenic tour of the soon to be opened eastern section of the highway 40 reconstruction. It was hard not to enjoy in such beautiful weather. Like a Norwegian summer night!

Sunday October 4th is a full moon, and as per usual The Fucking Bike club will be going for a bike ride. You are welcome to come along, but only on one condition... Everyone who attends must ride a bike with 20" wheels or smaller. To do otherwise ensures brutal and sustained mocking for the entire night, not unlike the kind of shit talking that can usually be found in the comments section of this blog.

What's that you say? You don't have a bike with small wheels? Ask around, I'm be shocked if someone you know didn't have one you could borrow. If worse comes to worse, kids bikes only cost a few dollars at the thrift store. A few dollars is a pittance compared to the amount of fun you are gonna have on the 4th cruising the moonlight streets of St. louis with a bunch of Yahoos on kids bikes.

An Open Letter To All Lifetime Members For Life

I’ll start this by saying that I love the FBC. I do. My first ride was 10/06 and I’ve been riding when I can ever since. I just wanted to say that last night was the first time that I’ve gone home from an FBC full moon fiasco without the feeling of being a part of something great due to the actions of several folks. Please let me make it clear that the organizers do a phenomenal job of keeping things loose and letting the group police themselves. I understand that when you get THAT many people together there are bound to be a couple of jerks – hey it takes all kinds! – but that tribe appears to be growing in number and when their actions jeopardize the fun, safety, and potentially the future of the group I think something needs to be said.

FBC has grown to be massive. Huge. But we aren’t the only people on the road and in the interest of keeping the peace between motorists and cyclists (FBC or otherwise) shouldn’t act like it. Although many people were reminded over and over (and over) again to stay in one lane, I watched as cars would creep along trying to pass the group and riders would just stay dead center in the left lane as if there wasn’t a car there at all. MO state law says a group of cyclists can legally take A lane. One lane. The one on the right. It’s pretty generous of them and not that hard to do on our part.

Overheard: “I actually like pissing cars off.” Wow. Wrong attitude. You are a jerk. Take it somewhere else.

When we get to a landing spot PLEASE pick up your trash. I watched a guy set his beer can on the ground, stomp on it and walk away from it. *boggle* Please have some respect not only for our fine city, but for the people that don’t want to see the FBC get a bad wrap for stuff like that and take the time to pick up after you. A couple of kind souls took the time to clean up your mess.

That’s not to say everyone sucks. It is still awesome and uplifting to see the majority of folks help out with a flat, warn about potholes, grates and traffic, and generally look out for each other (which reminds me: I really hope the fellow that bonked his head after the parked-car crash is alright). It’s that consideration and brother/sisterhood that makes the FBC great, something to keep coming back to and something to be proud to be a part of.

Please just practice Common Sense and Common Courtesy. Remember that we are all in this together together; geared, fixed, single speed, on foot or motorized. Your actions help shape the way that St. Louisans view cyclists of all kinds so please do your part to keep it friendly and safe. Take care of one another, be respectful, HAVE FUN and let’s have another 51 great full moon fiascos.

How Much Fun Can You Handle?

Its that time of year. Time for the first FBC approved race of the summertime. This one came from the fun-adled mind of the one and only Peat Henry. If you don't know who he is, you must be new in town.

Only Peat knows the exact format of the the race but I can tell you this much for sure, like all FBC sponsored races the point is not to prove how bad ass you are, it's to see how much fun you can have. Ride any bike you want, ride fast or ride slow, carry a pizza and a boombox with you or don't. Just meet us at the Turtle Park on Oakland Ave, Saturday June 6th. Sign ups start at 1pm the race starts at 2:00. A five dollar entry fee goes to charity. See you there.

Its time to figure out a location for prom. The big day is Saturday May 9th and we would need the venue from 9 or 10pm until close. There also needs to be a dance floor and a PA system. Does anybody have a line on a venue that could fit 150 people and that we could get for free? Tell them we are a thirsty bunch and they will make plenty of dough at the bar.

If not, I've got a list of VFW halls and Cultural Societies to call. They will cost a few hundred dollars to rent, so we will have to charge admission to prom. Obviously free is better, so if you can hook up a place for free let us know in the comments or use "contact the FBC" to send us an email.

The Skatium is not an option.

All bets are off once we reach Alton and pay some leathery bartender to show the goods.

Just Right for January

For the 46th month in a row The Fucking Bike Club had fun riding bikes under the full moon. That means FBC Full Moon Fiasco #50: FBC Prom, in May, is going to be our Golden Anniversary. Can you even imagine?! We might need to go ahead and form a prom planning committee right now.

As for last Saturday, sure, it was cold. It was cold enough to wear a ski mask without looking like a weirdo. It was cold enough to freeze the lens on my camera and numb toes. But it wasn't too cold to have fun.

Thanks to Off Broadway for waiving their cover charge and to residents of the small apartment at 11th and Allen in Soulard that let 45 Lifetime Members for Life in the FBC crash their party. We had a great time.

Also, cheers to the newly formed FBC Chicago who experienced their first Full Moon Fiasco under the same moon up in the Windy City.

If you've never spent a cold Sunday afternoon with 25 of your friends riding ten speeds around my parents neighborhood and shooting BB guns at water balloons hanging from strings, you should. That's what the FBC did on January 4th 2009. We called it the FBC Winter Biathlon.

In all, 24 Lifetime Members for Life in The Fucking Bike Club tested their lungs and their trigger fingers on a private drive in Ladue. We broke the field down into heats of three. In each heat, the racers did three laps of the neighborhood, after each lap they had to run down my parents driveway and attempt to shoot a water balloon hanging from a string in the backyard from a shooting station on the patio. If they hit the balloon the racer could then run back to their bike and do another lap. The person to do three laps and pop three water balloons in the shortest amount of time was the winner.

That person was me. But in the interest of full disclosure, I also designed the race, live on the race course and tested the BB guns. So maybe there should be and asterisks by name in the official results. At least I didn't give myself a prize. (My little brother gave it to me. And it was one of my beer coozies that he spray painted gold and presented to me).

As we all know, worrying about who won and lost FBC related races is only useful if you are studying for an upcoming FBC trivia night. The important thing is that everybody had fun. I'm pretty sure they did. I know that they ate all the chili.

Set Your Sights For January 4th

Please join The Fucking Bike Club on Sunday, January 4th for the long awaited FBC Winter Biathlon. Modeled after the bitchin-est event in the winter Olympics, the FBC Winter Biathlon combines bicycle riding, shooting and cold weather.

If you have a BB gun that you can bring to the event, please let me know. We already have at least three lined up, but the more guns we can get our hands on the less qualifying heats we have to run before the finals.

As with all FBC endorsed races the goal is to have fun. Even if you fancy yourself quite slow on a bike, or a terrible shot with a BB gun, you should come out and race. I can personally guarantee that you will have fun. And even if you really can't be convinced to race, this should be one hell of an event for spectators. There will be beer and there may even be chili. What more could you ask for.

Meet at Turtle Park at noon on Sunday the 4th. We will all ride together to the race course at 12:30pm sharp. See you there.

The Widest Bike Path In America

Thank you to Missouri Department of Transportation, The Farmers Almanac and The Earth's Moon for allowing The Fucking Bike Club to realize a dream. The idea for a "40's on 40" Fiasco has been bouncing around The Fucking Bike Club for years. Whether or not it was going to happen was basically out of our greasy hands. But thankfully on Friday December 12th, 2008 everything came together under the brightest full moon in decades and an FBC dream was realized. Another Festivus Miracle!

Cynics among you may be saying, "40's on 40? What the hell is this guy talking about? I wasn't drinking a 40."

True enough you cynical bastard. But a few of us were. The original idea for the ride was to make our first stop at a liquor store in the county and get OE's, Mickey's, Colts's and Hurricane's. But then we looked into it. Every Liquor store between Turtle Park and Brentwood that sells 40's closes before 11pm. So then we thought about buying a bunch of cases of 40's and handing them out at the steep mulch covered entrance ramp to the new highway 40. The more we thought about that the more clearly we envisioned a scene of half full forty bottle raining through a sky painted by red and blue flashing lights and splashing down in puddles of broken glass in the cold Frontenac night. For that reason I didn't spend Friday afternoon buying cases of malt liquor, instead I spent it making little laminated 40oz-ers for your spokes.

For anyone who thinks Full Moon Fiasco 45 didn't earn the subtitle "40's on 40", might I suggest either "Party on Farty" or "The Widest Bike Path in America."

Whatever you decide to call it, I hope you had fun. I know that I'll remember riding my bike the wrong way down an empty interstate highway under a cartoonishly gigantic full moon for a long time to come. Not to mention partying on the highway at 40 and ballas, our cordial and mature interactions with representatives of several St. Louis County Police departments, the nice young gentleman at Schnucks who let us skip them in line to beat the 1:30 beer deadline, The strange dudes at the bonfire (Vinnie, I'm looking at you.), and the unbelievably nice (seriously) members of the Maplewood Fire Department. And Vinnie, next time you get cold at a giant bonfire, remember that laying in the fire doesn't so much warm you up as burn your clothes off.

Cranksgiving and Similarly Named but Totally Unrelated Alley Cat Race

The Dudes at St. Louis Bicycle Works wanted to let all you FBC lifetime members for life know about their Cranksgiving food ride. Its a long or short bike ride, FBCers should do the long one, that goes to various food stores and buys food for people who need it. Its happen this Sunday November 23rd. Meet at Bicycle works at 4102 Shenandoah at noon and bring a bag to carry the stuff you buy.

The same dudes also wanted you to know about something that, for insurance reasons, is in no way associated with St. Louis Bicycle Works. This second, totally separate and unrelated event, is an alley cat race that will take place on the Saturday November 22nd and is called "Cranksgiving Alley Cat Race." To participate in this event which has no connection to St. Louis Bicycle Works meet in the round-a-bout in the middle of Tower Grove Park on Saturday at 4pm.

A Very Busy Weekend

As if your calendar wasn't already about to puke from being so full of Halloween Party's. Here are two more FBC related things to do this weekend.

The STL Bike Polo dudes are hosting the 2008 Midwest Bike Polo Championships on Saturday at Lindenwood Park on Jameson Road. Sign ups Are at 9:00am and the tournament goes all day. Even if you've never played bike polo come on out and watch, its kind of like a two wheeled demolition derby mixed with a little bit of actual sport.

Also, on Saturday evening the FBC's own Ms. Metrolink is hosting Metrolink Prom. Prom go-ers should meet at the Delmar Metrolink Station before 7:15pm in formalwear and bring $2.50 for a two hour metrolink pass. Also be sure and bone up on Brian's timeless 'Party, Party on the Metrolink' chant.
